Instagram Co-Founder Joins Anthropic

Anthropic, an AI startup founded by former OpenAI employees, has appointed Mike Krieger, co-founder of Instagram, as its new Chief Product Officer. Krieger, known for his pivotal role in scaling Instagram to over a billion users, will oversee product engineering, management, and design at Anthropic. His expertise is expected to drive the expansion of Claude, Anthropic's generative AI chatbot, particularly in enterprise applications, making it more accessible to a broader audience.

Krieger's background includes co-founding Instagram with Kevin Systrom in 2010 and serving as Chief Technology Officer until 2018. Post-Instagram, he co-founded Artifact, an AI-powered personalized news app acquired by Yahoo in April 2024. At Anthropic, Krieger's experience in product development and user experience will be instrumental in enhancing the company's AI models and expanding its market presence to compete with major AI players like OpenAI and Google.

Anthropic's flagship product, Claude, competes directly with OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini. The company has recently launched enterprise subscription plans and mobile apps to broaden Claude's reach. Krieger's appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen Anthropic's product development and user engagement strategies, aiming to innovate and scale its AI solutions, especially in professional and enterprise settings.
